The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:8
Psalm 121:8 is a beautiful and reassuring verse that has brought comfort to countless people throughout history. This verse speaks to the unchanging nature of God’s protection and care for His people.
The context of this verse is important to understand its significance. The Psalmist is expressing his trust in God’s protection, acknowledging that the Lord is the source of his help and strength. In the previous verses, the Psalmist declares that his help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He then describes how God watches over His people, never slumbering or sleeping, and keeping them safe from harm.
In verse 8, the Psalmist expands on this idea, stating that God’s protection extends to all areas of our lives. The Lord will keep our going out and our coming in, which can be interpreted as referring to all our comings and goings, our activities and journeys, our entrances and exits. This means that no matter what we do, where we go, or what happens to us, God is with us and will keep us safe.
Furthermore, the verse emphasizes the eternal nature of God’s protection. The Lord will keep us going out and coming in “from this time forth and forevermore.” This means that God’s care is not temporary or conditional, but enduring and everlasting. It is a promise that we can hold on to in times of uncertainty and fear, knowing that God’s love and protection will never falter.
