Trust in God’s Ultimate Plan

The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever- do not abandon the works of your hands.

Psalm 138:8

Psalm 138 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise to God, likely written by King David. The psalmist begins by expressing gratitude to God for answering their prayer and strengthening them in their time of need. They go on to praise God for his faithfulness, and for the way he exalts the lowly and humble.

In verse 8, the psalmist declares their trust in God’s plan for their life, and their confidence that God will fulfill his purpose for them. The psalmist recognizes that their life has a specific plan and purpose that God has ordained, and they trust that God will see it through to completion.

The phrase “the Lord will fulfill his purpose for me” is a statement of faith that God has a plan and a direction for our lives, and that he will guide us towards that purpose if we are open and receptive to his leading. This is a common theme throughout the Bible, and many other passages emphasize the importance of trusting in God’s plan for our lives and seeking his guidance in all things.

The psalmist then acknowledges God’s steadfast love, which endures forever. This is a reminder that God’s love for us is unwavering and unchanging, no matter what circumstances we may face in life. We can trust in God’s love to see us through even the most difficult of times.

Finally, the psalmist ends with a plea for God not to forsake the work of his hands. This is a humble recognition that we are not self-made or self-sufficient, but rather we are created by God and dependent on him for our very existence. The psalmist is asking God to continue to be involved in their life and to guide them towards his purpose, acknowledging that they cannot accomplish anything on their own.

Overall, Psalm 138:8 is a powerful statement of faith and trust in God’s plan for our lives. It reminds us that we are not alone and that God is actively working in our lives to guide us towards his purpose. By trusting in God’s plan and seeking his guidance, we can find peace and fulfillment in our lives, no matter what challenges we may face.
