Humility And Faith

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.

Proverbs 3:7

This verse is a part of a larger section of the Book of Proverbs that provides guidance and wisdom for leading a good and righteous life. The verse emphasizes the importance of humility and the recognition of one’s limitations.

The first part of the verse, “Do not be wise in your own eyes,” warns against the dangers of pride and overconfidence. It cautions against the tendency to think that one knows everything and that one’s own understanding is superior to others’. This attitude can lead to arrogance, stubbornness, and a lack of willingness to listen to others’ perspectives and advice.

The second part of the verse, “fear the Lord and shun evil,” emphasizes the importance of having a reverential fear of God and a commitment to living a righteous and moral life. It calls for individuals to avoid evil and to pursue goodness and righteousness in their daily lives.

Overall, Proverbs 3:7 serves as a reminder to remain humble, seek wisdom from others, and pursue a life that is grounded in faith and morality.
